About our estate
Our Region
The Municipal Unit of Movri, in western Achaia, took its name from Mount Movri, a mountain with an elevation of 818 meters that covers much of the region's inland area. The area encompasses a fertile plain, rich in olive groves and vineyards. Our village, Krinos of Achaia, lies at the northern foothills of the mountain and has tended its olive groves for generations.
At the foot of the mountain, the conditions our olive trees find favor the Koroneiki variety, producing trees that root deeply and yield fruit with a rich aroma.
Movri, and Krinos in particular, is not merely a place of production — it is the place that raised our families, and this leaves its mark on every drop of our oil.
Our Generations
At Ktima Sofianos, our relationship with the olive tree didn't begin yesterday. It started with great-grandfather Aristotelis ,pictured above, continued with grandfather Yannis and brothers Aggelos and Aristotelis, and remains alive in us today.
Generations have passed down the knowledge and love for the olive tree as a priceless inheritance — from father to child, from hand to hand, from tree to tree.
We don't just make olive oil. We make something we feel is truly ours — and we want you to feel that too. This tradition, this land, this care — in every bottle that reaches your table.
The Legacy of Ancient Greece
In Ancient Greece, olive oil was a symbol of strength, wisdom, and divine favor. The goddess Athena gave Attica the olive tree as her supreme gift — a promise of prosperity and light.
At the Olympic Games, winners were crowned with the kotinos, a wreath of wild olive branch that was earned, not bought. Olive oil served as food, medicine, fuel for temple lamps, and an offering to the gods.
The importance of the olive tree is even recorded on the clay tablets of Linear B, the oldest form of writing in Greek civilization — where olive oil is documented as a valuable good and offering to the gods.
The ancient Greeks already knew what we are rediscovering today: the olive tree is life. We simply continue this legacy with the same respect.
Our Olive Oil
The Koroneiki variety is the soul of our Estate. Our trees in Krinos, Achaia, yield an olive oil with an intense fruity aroma and a slightly peppery finish.
Harvesting takes place at the right stage of ripeness, to preserve the fruit's natural aromas and rich polyphenol content. The result is an extra virgin olive oil — vibrant, expressive, unaltered.
